Animals
Animals include livestock raised in your Village and wild creatures around the Isle. Dr. Rupert, the herdsman, looks after the village's farm animals once he has moved in.
Raising farm animals
Recruit Dr. Rupert through Captain Brook and build a home for him. A Coop houses chickens, ducks and geese; a Barn houses cows and sheep. Buy each animal through its dwelling's management menu. Purchases require room in the dwelling, enough florens and the appropriate herdsman skill level.
| Animal | Home | Herdsman level to buy | Purchase (florens) | Product | Normal production interval | Base product sale (florens) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coop | No item-specific level requirement | 400 | Chicken Egg | 1 every 4 days | 45 | |
| Coop | 2 | 600 | Duck Egg | 1 every 4 days | 45 | |
| Coop | 6 | 900 | Goose Egg | 1 every 5 days | 45 | |
| Barn | 7 | 2,000 | Milk | 1 every 5 days | 45 | |
| Barn | 7 | 2,000 | Wool | 1 every 5 days | 28 |
Products accumulate in the dwelling's inventory. Check the dwelling for produce and refill with Animal Feed when needed: production pauses while a dwelling needs attention. Animals can also be petted.
Building the dwellings
| Dwelling | Building materials | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Coop | 2 Copper Ingots, 2 Spare Parts, 4 Thatch | Dr. Rupert has moved in |
| Barn | 5 Thatch, 1 Gold Ingot, 2 Rope | Dr. Rupert has moved in; herdsman level 7 |
Herdsman Display
The Herdsman Display needs one each of Chicken Egg, Duck Egg, Goose Egg, Milk and Wool. Completing it awards 10 tokens.
Wild birds
Wild birds are different from farm animals: they are not bought or kept in the village's dwellings. Their appearances depend on weather and location.
| Bird | Places to look | Weather |
|---|---|---|
| Pigeon | Lane, The Green, Shops and Connector | Sunny or heatwave |
| Magpie | Lane, The Green, Shops and Connector | Sunny or heatwave |
| Robin | Lane, The Green, Shops and Connector | Snow |
| Wild duck | Swan's Lake and Shops | Sunny or heatwave |
| Seagull | Beach, including the water | Sunny or heatwave |
Other wild creatures
Butterflies
Butterflies flutter around the Isle on sunny days, between 05:00 and 18:00. Orange, green, pink and blue varieties are placed around the outdoor areas. Approaching a resting butterfly makes it take flight again.
Foxes
Look for sleeping foxes at Swan's Lake and The Green after 20:00. Their appearances are chance-based, so a fox is not guaranteed every night.
Wild hives
Approaching a wild hive can release a stinging insect that chases you. A sting costs energy; the insect then returns to its hive. These wild hives are separate from the productive beehives tended by Theodore.
