Art
Art is the painting hobby in The Home County. Use an easel to start a painting, complete its inspiration activities, and return to paint as your inspiration allows.
Painting at the easel
Choose an unlocked medium at the easel. A painting can pause with an inspiration request; carry out the requested activity and return to continue. Different paintings can draw on different activities, so follow the request shown for the active painting.
Media and collection paintings
Each medium has a priority painting used by the Crystal Garden gallery collection. The collection requires those named paintings, not just any painting made with the same medium.
| Medium | Unlock | Collection painting | Inspiration activities in the collection painting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crayons | Available from the start | Take a nap; take a boat trip; swim; take a water break; catch a fish; chop a tree; talk to someone | |
| Charcoal | Complete two crayon paintings | Crayon activities, plus soaking and reading art | |
| Pastels | Complete two charcoal drawings | Charcoal activities, plus beverages and reflection | |
| Watercolour | Complete two pastel paintings | Take a nap; read art; take a water break; catch a fish; soak; study logic; have a beverage; reflect | |
| Oils | Complete two watercolour paintings | Watercolour activities, plus fancy fun |
Inspiration at home and around the Isle
Simple inspiration activities include talking, fishing, swimming, chopping a tree and resting. Later media introduce activities associated with home furnishings: a bath for soaking, a bookcase for reading art, a mirror or typewriter for reflection, beverage-making furnishings, and logic or entertainment furnishings. Check the active inspiration request before buying or using a furnishing.
Using paintings
Paintings can be placed as decorations, donated to the gallery in the Crystal Garden, or used for commissions and villager requests. Mortimer’s Commission asks for its own commissioned painting rather than a generic gallery painting.
Sale values
Painting items have their own base sale values. Painting skill raises their sale value by 15% at levels 5–9 and by 35% from level 10; these bonuses are separate from eligible completed village-goal rewards.
